KYC Process

As per IRDA’s AML/CFT Master Guidelines-2022, Insurer has to verify customer’s identity and address details (KYC- Know your Customer) when it is issuing/renewing any insurance Policy to customers.

What is meant by KYC or Know Your customer?

KYC is simply the process of authenticating or verifying the customer’s identity and address details when customer is availing any Insurance Policy. Here, Insurance company establishes a customer’s identity and address based on the documents submitted.

What is the KYC document list?

In most cases, KYC documentation includes a Aadhaar card, Driving License, Passport, forms of Photo ID and a proof of address. This isn’t and exhaustive list but is a general overview of what you can expect during the KYC process. There are two types of KYC: DIGILOCKER and OVD (official Valid documents)

The former allows for electronic verification, means that it allows you to benefit from remote and paperless e-KYC process. Here KYC information can be furnished online, thus offering a much more convenient experience for the customers.

What is the list of documents required for KYC?

When it comes to verification of identity, 4 documents are classified as “Officially Valid documents” by the Government of India.

  • Aadhar card
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Voter id

In online, how to complete e-KYC procedure in UIIC portal

Step 1: Customer needs to fill the mandatory details required for the issuance of new /renewal policy.

Step 2: Once proposal is saved, customer will get KYC link via SMS and Email to the Customer Registered Mobile number and Email address.

Step 3: Open the link sent to the customer in a Desktop/Mobile version Web browser and Click on “Get Started” button to proceed.

Step 4: Customer needs to select any one of the method to complete KYC verification.

DIGILOCKER:

By entering AADHAAR NO. and Customer will get OTP to the Registered Mobile Number to authenticate details of aadhaar. Once Authentication is completed, customer will get message as given below:

“Congratulations! Thanks for verifying your identity. Your application has been approved”

OFFICIAL VALID DOCUMENTS(OVD):

Customer needs to select Government id card from the dropdown, the same will be required to upload Front side and back side of the documents. After uploading Government ID card documents, customer needs to take selfie and then proceed to submit. Once Verification is completed, customer will get message as given below:

Congratulations! Thanks for verifying your identity. Your application has been approved

After KYC success confirmation, Customer will be able to pay the premium for the proposal and POLICY will be generated for customers.
