  • The Universal Health Insurance Scheme was launched on a countrywide basis in July 2003 with an objective to provide health care to poorest section of the society. The scheme was open to BPL and Non-BPL families.
  • Pursuant to the Hon'ble Finance Minister's budget speech on July 8 2004 the Universal Health Insurance Scheme have been redesigned in consultation with GIPSA to improve the access to the health care of exclusive BPL families.
  • In order to bring more numbers of BPL families under the new scheme subsidy on premium was increased from Rs.100/- per BPL family to Rs.200/- Rs.300/- and Rs.400/- for individual family of five and family of seven respectively which is being provided by Govt. of India (for APL there is no Govt. Subsidy).
  • The premium amount for BPL is Rs.100/- per annum for individual Rs.150/- for family not exceeding 5 and Rs.200/- per annum for family not exceeding 7.
  • The premium amount for APL is Rs.365/- per annum for individual Rs.548/- per annum for family not exceeding 5 and Rs.730/- per annum for family not exceeding 7.
  • It provides reimbursement towards following hosiptalisation expenses for illness / diseases contracted or injury sustained by the insured person.
Hospitalisation Benefits Limits
A.i)Room Boarding expenses as provided bythe Hospital/ Nursing Home.
ii)If admitted in IC Unit
i)Upto 0.5% of the Sum Insured per day.
ii) Upto 1% of Sum Insured per day.
B.Surgeon Anaesthetist Medical Practitioner Consultants Specialists fees Nursing expenses.   Upto 15% of the Sum Insured per illness/Injury.
C.Anaesthesia Blood Oxygen Operation Theatre Charges Surgical appliances Medicines & drugs Diagnostic materials and X-Ray Dialysis Chemotherapy Radiotherapy Cost of Pacemaker Artificial Limbs & Cost of organs & similar expenses. Upto 15% of Sum Insured per illness / injury
 

Under the scheme total expenses per illness are limited to Rs.15 0 and Company's liability in respect of all claims admitted during the period of insurance shall not exceed Rs.30 0 per person or family as mentioned in the schedule.

Member of family Rs.25 0

Temporary Total Disablement followed by an accident of earning member Rs.50/- per day subject to a maximum of Rs.750/- with a time excess of 3 days.

Age: 3 months to 65 years.

Major Exclusions:
  • 1. All pre-existing diseases.
  • 2. Any disease other than those specified in the Policy contracted by the Insured person during the first 30 days.
  • 3. Cost of spectacles contact lenses and hearing aids.
  • 4. Dental treatment of surgery.
  • 5. War risk.
  • Special changes in Universal Health Insurance Scheme for BPL families:
  • 1. All pre-existing diseases covered
  • 2. No waiting period for hospitalisation.
  • 3. Maternity cover for one child (waiting period 9 months) for caesarian Rs.5000/- & for normal delivery Rs.2500/-
  • 4. Loss of wages facility extended to Head of the family and or spouse
  • 5. Personal Accident death only cover extended to Head of the family and or spouse
