  • The Universal Health Insurance Scheme was launched on a countrywide basis in July 2003 with an objective to provide health care to poorest section of the society. The scheme was open to BPL and Non-BPL families.
  • Pursuant to the Hon'ble Finance Minister's budget speech on July 8 2004 the Universal Health Insurance Scheme have been redesigned in consultation with GIPSA to improve the access to the health care of exclusive BPL families.
  • In order to bring more numbers of BPL families under the new scheme subsidy on premium was increased from Rs.100/- per BPL family to Rs.200/- Rs.300/- and Rs.400/- for individual family of five and family of seven respectively which is being provided by Govt. of India (for APL there is no Govt. Subsidy).
  • The premium amount for BPL is Rs.100/- per annum for individual Rs.150/- for family not exceeding 5 and Rs.200/- per annum for family not exceeding 7.
  • The premium amount for APL is Rs.365/- per annum for individual Rs.548/- per annum for family not exceeding 5 and Rs.730/- per annum for family not exceeding 7.
  • It provides reimbursement towards following hosiptalisation expenses for illness / diseases contracted or injury sustained by the insured person.
